“I trust your direction and judgement as it has been excellent thus far.” This was a message I received today from a client. I was wanting to take the project I’m doing for her in a somewhat different direction because I felt it would serve her better. I tried to force myself to follow the original agreed upon directive, but I had a terrible case of writer’s block. For days this went on. That’s when it became apparent this was not the direction to follow. I emailed my client with my suggestion to take a different approach and her response humbled me. Really, it blew me away. When someone puts their trust in you, it is not something to be taken lightly. It should be treasured and for me it is.

Do you have a story about receiving trust from someone? What’s your story?

Pretty much that is how I thought an lived up until a year ago. Honestly, I think I hid behind the logic only because I was uncertain about the outcome. My decision to leave a full-time job to launch out on my own was a major decision. Did I have everything in place, both personally and professionally? Absolutely not. BUT I had prepared, studied, learned, tested, and tweaked enough to have a pretty firm foundation from which to launch.

Lesson Learned: Always prepare. Always plan. But don’t let absolute perfection keep you from realizing your dreams.
